About Midgard Adventures

Midgard Adventures is a cooperative group that runs regular organized play games online and in public places (IRL) where players can gather to socialize and game.  We are the official organized play group and Discord community for Kobold Press.

We host in-person games in taverns, restaurants, public libraries, churches, etc.  Online games are hosted on FoundryVTT and Roll20.net

Our in-person events are primarily in the Western suburbs of Chicago at this time, with the goal of expanding into other parts of the U.S. in the future.

Core Beliefs

We believe that supporting & promoting people of the gaming community is a much better use of our time than attempting to compete with other organized play groups.  When everything is a competition, everyone loses out.

The great thing about the RPG gaming community is that people can support multiple organized play programs at once.  Our mission is to get people around the table playing games and creating a shared story-telling experience.

Code of Conduct & Safety Tools

We have a comprehensive code of conduct for Midgard Adventures, which applies to our online, “in real life” (IRL), and convention games.

We most certainly value player safety in this group:

  • Every game master understands and will act upon an X-Card, indicated either vocally in a game or silently in Discord during a game.  The X-Card is a tool that allows anyone in your game (including you) to edit out any content anyone is uncomfortable with as you play.

  • Every game here has an Open Door policy; you are encouraged to step away from the game if you need to, and the players and game master will understand.

  • If any game will feature challenging or difficult content of any sort, that will be indicated in the game description.

Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition

We offer Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition organized play games using the Midgard Campaign Setting published by Kobold Press.

Online and IRL games are announced on our Discord Server.

Character Management

To facilitate the portability of your characters, we operate under rules and standards to ensure fair play at convention, IRL, and online games hosted by Midgard Adventures. Our organized play rules can be found here.

Availability & Costs

Our games are open to everyone (age 16+) interested in playing tabletop RPGs. The cost is FREE to play the adventure content that we run at our organized play events.

New Players Welcome

To play, you don’t need to know any of the rules. We’ll teach you and you'll learn by playing the game.  All you'll need to bring is a pencil, a small notebook, and your imagination. But expect to play for approximately 4-hours per session.

New Game Masters Welcome

To run a game as a game master, you do not need to have any experience, but you should have experience playing the game. We’ll teach how to run the games and will mentor you along the way.  All you need is a love of story telling, some organizational skills, and a great imagination.

How to Volunteer

We need as many GMs to volunteer to run games, because we always have more players than we have GMs (we hate turning people away who want to play).  If you are interested in volunteering to run some games, please fill out our volunteer form.  You can run as many sessions as you'd like during the year, but we ask that you commit to running at least one, three-hour session per month.

Let’s get to rolling dice!  Game on!!
